PERIODONTOLOGY
Periodontal disease is the name given to diseases affecting the gums and all other tissues adjacent to the tooth. Periodontal disease accounts for 70% of adult tooth loss.
In the first phase of gingivitis, only the gums are affected. During this period, the gums bleed, redden and grow. Gingivitis is a reversible disease with daily oral care and regular cleaning of dental tartar.
With the progression of inflammation, the stage of “periodontitis” begins. The inflammation of periodontitis has now become a condition that can lead to bone loss in the jawbone over time.
In general, poor oral hygiene, smoking, genetic factors, hormonal changes, stress, drug use, clenching and grinding of teeth, malnutrition, certain systemic diseases and inadequate dental treatments are the causes of periodontal diseases.
In its treatment, root surface smoothing, flap operation, tissue grafts and laser applications can be applied individually or in combination.
